Why most GA4 setups fail

Your GA4 is probably lying to you — here's why

Duplicate page_view events

Inflating pageviews 30–50% because Enhanced Measurement plus manual tags both fire on SPA route changes.

Purchase revenue missing tax + shipping

GA4 ecommerce shows lower revenue than your backend because the event fires before totals are final, or omits tax/shipping fields entirely.

Cross-domain sessions broken

Users moving from www → checkout.example → thankyou.example become "direct" instead of original campaign — killing attribution.

No conversion events defined

Everything is just a pageview. No sign_up, no purchase, no generate_lead marked — so GA4 can't tell you what matters.

The solution

A GA4 property that reports what actually happened

We install via Google Tag Manager — not hardcoded — so your team can extend the setup later without breaking anything.

  • Enhanced Measurement, tuned

Scroll, outbound clicks, video engagement, file downloads — configured with the right thresholds, not defaults.

  • Custom events mapped to your funnel

sign_up, add_to_cart, purchase, generate_lead — all matched to real user actions, not generic page visits.

  • Conversions marked + imported to Google Ads

Key events flagged in Admin and pushed to your Google Ads account for smart bidding.

  • Custom dimensions + user properties

Capture plan tier, user type, source/medium, campaign — so segmentation actually works in reports.

  • Consent mode v2 + IP anonymization

GDPR/CCPA compliant. Data retention tuned. Ads personalization signals configured correctly.

  • Cross-domain + subdomain continuity

Sessions flow cleanly from marketing site → checkout → thank-you, attribution preserved.

FAQ

GA4 setup questions

How long does GA4 setup take?

Standard GA4 setup is 2–3 business days from the time we receive access. Complex multi-domain or custom-event setups (Enterprise) can take up to 5 business days.

Do I need GA4 if I already have Universal Analytics?

Universal Analytics stopped collecting data on July 1, 2024. You need GA4 — not as a replacement, but as the only option going forward. We handle migration of historical event mappings where possible.

Can you migrate my UA events to GA4?

Yes. We review your legacy UA events, map them to GA4 event names (which follow a different naming convention), and preserve the business logic. Historical UA data stays in UA for reference.

What if I'm on a custom-built site?

As long as you can inject a GTM script in your <head>, we can install GA4. That covers Laravel, Next.js, Nuxt, Rails, Django, and any custom codebase. For SPAs, we configure virtual page_view events correctly.

Will you set up BigQuery export?

Yes, on Enterprise plans. BigQuery export gives you raw event data for custom SQL analysis, data warehouse blending, or ML use cases — plus retention beyond GA4 limits.

Can you handle ecommerce tracking?

Absolutely. view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, add_payment_info, purchase — all with proper item_id, value, currency, tax, shipping, and coupon parameters.
